Aston Matthews Sustainability Statement
Our commitment
We would like to help make your bathroom project as planet friendly as possible. Outlined below are the ways in which we are working to minimise our carbon footprint and reduce waste. There is always room for improvement, but we hope these initiatives help us move towards a more sustainable future.
The journey so far!
Aston Matthews has not sold a plastic bath for over 30 years preferring to promote the more sustainable steel, copper and cast iron options – in fact, we’ve been selling cast iron baths for 120 years.
Cast iron and copper baths are made from recycled metal.
Steel, copper and cast iron baths can be completely recycled – they also last much longer than plastic baths.
We also specialise in steel shower trays – we are the biggest supplier of Bette steel shower trays in the UK.
Our values
Aston Mathews sells only high quality taps which last longer than the cheaper options.
Aston Matthews taps are made from solid brass or stainless steel so do not contain the levels of toxic lead found in some cheaper models.
The majority of our ceramic basins and WCs are produced in a factory that has achieved EPD Certification in recognition of its commitment to environmental improvements and transparency. This includes recycling and reusing both water and heat, using solar power, using recyclable materials and reducing emissions.
All the wood used in our solid wood toilet seats is sourced from FSC approved forests. As is the wood used for our S Line solid wood bathroom furniture.
With very few exceptions, the materials used in our bathroom furniture are classified as ‘very low emissions’ or ‘virtually emission free.’ In addition the furniture complies with ISO 14001 environmental management systems.
Every WC sold by Aston Matthews has, for years, been dual flush to reduce the amount of waste water – this includes our traditional lever flush options.
We now offer low energy electric towel warmers, which are significantly more energy efficient than previous models.
Our carrier bags are paper not plastic and all our packaging is made from recycled or recyclable materials. Some of the products we receive from manufacturers are not yet in recyclable packaging, but we are working with them to encourage the use of eco-friendly options.
